Power / Utility Failure
Immediate safety precautions
☐ Call 911 for downed lines, gas smell, fire, or life-safety threat.
☐ Keep people away from electrical hazards and wet energized areas.
☐ Use flashlights instead of candles when possible.
☐ Keep refrigerators/freezers closed if outage is short.
☐ Generators must remain outside and away from doors/windows.
Avoid these common mistakes
☐ Do not touch downed wires.
☐ Do not use generators indoors, in garages, or near air intakes.
☐ Do not reset breakers repeatedly without identifying cause.
School / child-release decision checkpoints
☐ Account for all students, staff, visitors, and groups before release or relocation.
☐ Confirm official all-clear or emergency-management direction; do not rely on sirens alone.
☐ Inspect route, shelter, assembly, and pickup areas for fire, flood, utility, debris, traffic, or security hazards.
☐ Use controlled reunification for parent pickup: ID verification, release log, traffic control, and one official communication channel.
